In Austria, there’s a tradition: every year on Austrian National Day, the Federal President opens his “office”, the stunning Imperial Palace "Hofburg", and gives the public a tour – a gesture people really value. So when Covid hit in 2020 and lockdowns made gatherings impossible, we wanted to find another way to keep this tradition alive.
Together with Alexander Van der Bellen, we created a stunt nobody would’ve expected from a President: wearing VR glasses, he directed a drone through the palace – and by doing so, we not only kept the tradition alive, but also showed that even in difficult times, not taking yourself too seriously can give people something to smile about, far beyond national borders.
The stunt quickly became a huge success, was picked up extensively by the media, and celebrated by the public – also receiving recognition from industry award shows like The One Show.
